Help my Students Socially Distance Next School Year!!
Funded Jul 27, 2020This year is unlike any other in the 15 years that I have been working with children. I knew this going into this school year. My students face many challenges, including poverty, homelessness, inconsistency within their home environment, being immigrants to a new country, speaking other languages other than English, trauma and many others. As a teacher who works in an urban district that is considered a title one school district, it can be difficult to obtain supplies for my students. Most times, I purchase items on my own. That is, until I came to know about Donors Choose through one of my colleagues.
Donors Choose has been life changing! Because of kind hearted people such as yourself, I am able to provide my students with much needed supplies that they would not otherwise be able to purchase for themselves. Your donation this year has allowed me to purchase individual supplies for each one of my students. This includes a clear vinyl bag for books and another for their notebook and folder. They also received a pencil bag full of supplies, such as pencils, markers, colored pencils, glue sticks, and erasers. The great thing about these supplies is that they are able to travel back and forth between home and school which is so important this year during the pandemic. All of my students are working remotely from home. However, I have no worries about supplies because they have everything they need! Thanks to you! I just want to say how much I appreciate your generosity and kindness. I will never forget it!!”

Help Give the Gift of Exploring Language Through Technology!
Funded Jun 28, 2019Chrome books are here!! My students and I are so excited to have these great new pieces of technology in the classroom! In my school, and especially in my classroom, technology is one of those things that we want to utilize but don't always have access to. In the past, in order to use computers, I would have to borrow them from another teacher. This would mean that the teacher that I borrow the computers from do not have computers in their classroom. Because of helpful donors like you, I am now able to have access to computers every single day!!
These computers allow my students to access reading programs like Raz-Kids, Lexia and Epic Books to work on their vocabulary, decoding skills and strengthen their comprehension skills. Students are also using the computers to research topics, learn typing skills and most importantly use programs like Google Translate in order to translate their language into English.
I am so thankful for people like you!! Your kindness and generosity is greatly appreciated! It's proof that people care about education!”

Funded Oct 18, 2017Thank you so much for your generosity and willingness to help out my classroom. I am the teacher for 18 amazing students that are brand new to the country. This means that they are learning to speak, read and write all in a new language which is English. Before Donors Choose, I did not have a good assortment of leveled books in my library. My students read many of the same books many times. Because of this, their motivation to read was very low! Also, most of my class are reading level A, B or C books because they are still learning to read in English. This would also decrease the amount of books that I had available.
Now that I have all of these new books that I have been able to add to my leveled library, each of my students now have their very own reading bag with leveled books and sight words in them. Each of these bags contain 4 books that are just right to read. During my reading center, students get their reading bag and read independently or with a partner for 15 minutes. These books get switched out every Friday!
These new books contain fiction and non fiction texts. My students are being exposed to many phonics skills, including decoding skills, sight words, and features of non fiction books. I cannot express the amount of joy that my students have for these new books. They are no longer bored with my selection! It is gratifying to know that there are people in this world that still want to help out others. Again, thank you, thank you, thank you!!”
