Prepare for Take-Off! Non-Stop Flight Around the World!
Funded Sep 7, 2018Thank you so much for helping fund my project! All of the books about countries and cultures will be used during our nonfiction researching unit about countries around the world. My students are so excited to read and learn from these new books! After previewing them, they are already talking about which countries they want to learn about first.
During this unit, students get to choose countries they are interested in learning about, and then research their country with a small group of their peers. What is so great about this unit is that it culminates all the reading and researching skills students have learned prior in the year. Students preview their books, looking for topics and subtopics that are similar, and then once they begin researching, they use their knowledge about text structure to help organize their learning into notes - which they later teach to other students.
While reading, kiddos will love practicing the strategies they've learned about how to read the three different kinds of nonfiction: expository, narrative, and hybrid. Since this project was funded, they will have access to all three of the different kinds of nonfiction. Their favorite is always hybrid nonfiction because they love differentiating between the fiction part of the story versus the nonfiction facts. The "Benjamin Blog and His Inquisitive Dog Investigation" is the perfect series for students to use their skills and strategies while reading and researching.
Thank you so much, again, for your support in helping me give my students these learning opportunities about different countries, cultures and ways of life around the world.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Stultz
