Calming Visual Arts Area

We can't thank you enough for your generous donations to my art classroom. The overall impact has been tremendous. I originally intended the space for my middle schoolers, but my high schoolers utilize it the most. My high schoolers are peer mediators who use the space to discuss issues and solve them using restorative justice methods. The cozy corner is a private space to share their feelings. My middle schoolers are using the space for a calm place to read. As a school, we are developing a love for reading to increase literacy in the classroom. I am happy to offer a space in an art classroom to build their joy for reading.

My students were very excited when the supplies came in. My students tested each bean bag that was delivered. They each have one bean bag they love the most.

The next step in building my cozy corner is to include coping mechanisms and color therapy to calm students with special needs.”
