I am beyond blessed to teach 20 first graders in a dual language program. My students live in a neighborhood that's predominately Hispanic and 85% of the students who attend the school are from low income families. My students come in every day ready to learn and while sometimes they have a hard time focusing because of some unfortunate factors, they are able to put it aside for just a second to be engaged in an interesting lesson whether in Spanish or English. It has been fascinating to see how much their Spanish has improved and to hear my five non-native speaking students engaged in a Spanish conversation. It is truly beautiful to hear!
