To begin a lesson in science, language arts, and math it is important to hook my learners right away. What better way than reading a story related to the topic? For my visual learners, a book with bright, colorful pictures engages them immediately. Auditory learners focus on the sound of the teacher's voice. Peaking the interest of each and every student is key to learning. For some students who are turned off by textbooks, looking and listening to a picture book may be the only way to begin to understand a concept. I will be referring back to the book throughout the unit, and the books will be available for students to look at independently at their seats. With these books, students will not only look and listen, but THEY WILL LEARN!
