Children need to have opportunities to read every day! Having books at their own reading level helps them to feel like readers. Leveled reading books will help the children practice reading strategies that they have learned during reading instruction. Unfortunately, I do not have the books to instruct my students at the appropriate levels. Our guided reading groups are usually 4-6 children per group. Each individual child should be able to have their own book for instruction. Balanced Literacy requires children to be engaged in reading and writing every day. We need these books to ensure that quality instruction can take place. Once they have been instructed with these books they then become books the boys and girls can read independently! I want my students to leave Kindergarten as confident readers who love to read!
