These books will make a huge difference in my student's learning poetry, and personal narratives. "Love That Dog", by Sharon Creech will be used to coincide with our poetry unit. The book is about a young boy that hates poetry. This should help get some students to buy into the subject. "The House on Mango Street", by Sandra Cisneros will be used during our unit on personal narratives. Not only will these books fit perfectly within our unit, but they are relevant to the student's lives and will help engage our students. In this age group, it is sometimes hard to get the students excited about reading and writing. When we can use amazing authors to get their attention, connect with them, and get them excited about learning, it ends up being an amazing experience!
