Research shows that physical movement throughout the day can help students focus and increase performance. Stability balls, yoga mats, wobble chairs, pillows, etc. are easy ways to encourage movement in school instead of sitting at a desk all day long. Through the use of multiple seating options, students will be more engaged in the material and take ownership of their learning. I want my students to have the ability to collaborate, advocate for themselves, and grow as learners. With flexible seating, students will be given the opportunity to choose where to sit in order to find a comfortable environment that fits his/her needs. This will help students build responsibility by giving them freedom and allowing them to make decisions and smart choices. Also, this type of setup will allow for collaboration, which is a huge focus in our classroom. This project would make a huge difference to my students and myself as we can create a comfortable, welcoming classroom environment to learn and grow from one another.
