  • Take a Seat!

    Funded May 7, 2024

We are thrilled with our new classroom seats! Not only are they comfortable, but they also add brightness to our classroom.

Making big purchases like this can be expensive for teachers, and many of us have to prioritize our needs due to budget constraints. Thanks to generous donors like you, we have the opportunity to acquire essential items without having to make difficult decisions.

"Thank you" will never be sufficient for such a generous act. Your decision to support our classroom has had a significant impact on me and my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Massey

This classroom project was brought to life by Maxwell/Hanrahan Foundation and one other donor.
  • Making Strides in Summer!

    Funded May 4, 2021

The goal of this project was to put books in the hands of first graders so they could continue reading over the summer break. Donors, you helped me reach this goal! I was able to send home at least 3 books with each student to read over the summer. The students were so excited to receive their books as many of them do not have books of their own at home. Thank you for doing something so meaningful for a group of first graders that might not have had the opportunity to read over the summer. Your kindness will leave a lasting impression on this group of students as well as their teacher.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Massey

  • We Like - and Need - to Move It, Move It!

    Funded Dec 6, 2017

This project has been an answer to so many classroom needs! It has had a beneficial impact on my classroom environment.

The bike pedals have come in handy when certain students have had extra energy they needed to burn. The pedals are also used as a focus tool for those that need to fidget and move in order to complete their assignments. it is working wonders and I am seeing more creative work and work being completed in a more timely manner by the students utilizing these tools.

The Yoga ball chairs are fantastic. In the past, I have had Yoga balls with "feet", but these tend to topple over creating a disruption which is the opposite intention of using these! These chairs have wheels that can be locked, so, students can "park" at their desk, lock the wheels and continue to shift, bounce and move while they are working on assignments. They can unlock the wheels and move the chair easily to different parts of our room so they can continue to be productive.

"Thank you" is never adequate for the selflessness you have shown to our classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Massey

  • Oh Dear, We Can't Hear!

    Funded Dec 6, 2017

Thank you all for so generously giving to our classroom. The headphones are so comfortable and have provided a better testing experience and overall classroom experience by limiting the disruptions of adjusting ear buds that just don't fit! When we used our ear buds, I was constantly having to adjust them for students, at times, even standing by them while they tested to hold the ear bud in their ear! It was frustrating for both teacher and student. The students focus would waiver when I would have to adjust the headphones, some would become very nervous as they knew I was standing there while they were testing. These new headphones have completely eliminated this issue. Our classroom is blessed by your selflessness.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Massey

  • Take a Seat!

    Funded Apr 10, 2017

My students were ecstatic when our stools came in. They have enjoyed using them in the classroom and have discovered many different ways to use them. Some enjoy sitting on them and leaning from side to side while they work. Others chose to place books or work atop the stools and hug the stool as they work. I have noticed students working more intently while using the stools in any manner. I will definitely be utilizing Donorschoose.org, to purchase more furniture and learning equipment for my classroom. Once our classroom budget is spent on the classroom necessities, there isn't much (if any) to purchase items that would cater to students that have mental or physical disabilities, it breaks my heart each year to know what I want to provide them with and not be able to provide it.

Without Donors Choose, and the generosity of some amazing donors, this purchase would not have been possible. My heart is so full!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Massey

Recent research and classroom teachers are agreeing that offering students alternatives to sitting in a desk chair are improving student's creativity, attentiveness and participation in class. We already know students don't all THINK the same, so, why should we expect them to all SIT the same. I see it all the time, each year I have students that fidget in their chairs. Some sit with a leg under them, some prefer to stand, some rock back and forth or lean back dangerously balancing on two legs. I have been using yoga balls as chairs for the last month and I see a HUGE improvement in my students. They are more relaxed, focused and overall they are being better students! Who would've thought something as simple as how a student is sitting could have so much effect on their success in class? I am hoping to purchase stools, beanbag chairs, pillows and inflatables to have even more seating options in the classroom.
