Enriching Young Readers Literary Experience With Books on CD's
Funded Jan 24, 2020Thank you for donating to our classroom literacy project. My students have developed a fondness for stories on cd. My youngest students are drawn to the rich language and exciting story plots. The listening center is a great place where my students can enjoy literature in an engaging way. I’m so excited and I am looking forward in revealing the box of stories with my students when it arrives. I haven’t told them yet, I want it to be a surprise!”

This classroom project was brought to life by An anonymous classroom supporter and 4 other donors.Inspiring Enthusiastic Readers by the Use of a Listening Center.
Funded Jan 25, 2018My students have been enjoying and learning from their new listening center. All students have benefited greatly from this terrific resource.
My English Language Learner student has greatly enjoyed this terrific resource. She has been thoroughly engaged with the variety of these traditional folktales. She has gained valuable vocabulary knowledge in relation to the usage of these books. She will listen to the stories and then her and I will conduct a short mini lesson that focuses on the vocabulary words mentioned in the books. She has been very excited to learn more about these words and has been observed using them in every day conversation.
As a class we have conducted an unit study around traditional folktales. We have listened to them first on our listening center and then have followed up with a compare and contrast of other folk tales with the same title to graph the components of each story that is the same and different. We have had amazing conversations, personal and text to text connections while doing this work.
I want to include the terrific follow up writing work that my kindergarteners have been doing as well. My group of kindergarteners have taken upon them selves to create a story map of each story in which they have listened to. They have included the characters, the setting and the problem of the story after they have listened to it first at the listening center. This activity has beautifully concluded the work that we have been doing in our English Language Arts block in relation to the common core standards.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Omidyar Network and 3 other donors.Montessori Work Rug
Funded Aug 7, 2017It all began with the arrival of our brand new beautiful blue rug. Due to our staggered start scheduled our blended Montessori classroom just had the oldest students ( kindergarteners) when the rug arrived. With much excitement and great community building me and my kindergarteners removed our old rug and replaced it with our beautiful new rug.
Since then we have had writer's workshop, reader's workshop, math workshop, community volunteer read aloud, circle time with songs and stories and amazing individual works. To say the least our rug is the essence of our classroom.
We look for forward to more community building involving games and songs along with learning how to be a peaceful and kind individual. This all occurs through our social emotional curriculum which occurs at the epic center of our classroom, the heart of it all our beautiful blue rug.”
