This classroom project was brought to life by Aspect Ventures and one other donor.

Many of my students, due to coming from centers of conflict, have limited literacy in their home language. The school is opening a bilingual program in the fall of 2017 to fill in this gap, but we need literature for the students to read! Studies have overwhelmingly shown that home language literacy boosts English literacy, and that culturally relevant readings are important for literacy development. The books I've chosen will help transform even newcomer students into fluent bilingual readers and writers! By providing these much-needed opportunities to read, the students, who are constantly on the lookout for reading material, will be benefited enormously.
