Big Book Blast Off!
Funded Dec 15, 2022I would like to thank you so much for supporting our project. Our class has enjoyed the big books. There are so many benefits of reading big books to students. As the teacher, I show the students the parts of a big book (Cover, title, title page). During the first reading, I read the text pointing to the words to help students track the print. We discuss the meaning, look for recurring patterns and re read the book several times. During the last reading, my students chime in and can read along!
The huge pictures in the big books are also a great support for my young readers. My students can't wait for me to turn the page so they can see the next cool picture.
I have also incorporated using the level A books in small group reading activities. At this time of the year, my students have mastered enough basic sight words to read the level A books with a little help from me. They enjoy that reading time with their peers! Again, thank you so much for supporting literacy development in my classroom!”
With gratitude,
Ms. W.
Lending Library!
Funded Jan 6, 2022Thank you so much for your generous donation. The Lending Library project has been very successful. My students have been able to take home great books for reading practice at home. The books that were chosen were sight word books. My students really needed the practice with reading sight words in context as opposed to just learning the words by memory.
I love the fact that I was able to give each student two fiction books as well as two nonfiction books every week to take home and practice reading.
In addition, I was able to give a writing journal to each student for extra practice in writing. The writing journal supplemented our curriculum wonderfully because there were writing prompts for each genre that we studied. We learned about narrative, opinion, and nonfiction writing and all of those topics were covered in their writing journal at home.
We are so thankful that you funded our Lending Library project this year. You really made a difference!”
With gratitude,
Ms. W.
