Many of our students, especially those with autism and sensory processing needs, find comfort in the tactile experience of molding and shaping these materials.   • Create a Calming Corner for Class

    I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for the recent introduction of the calm-down threading boards, calming stickers, and the creation of the calming corner in our classrooms. These resources have been invaluable in helping our students develop self-regulation skills, manage their emotions, and create a more peaceful learning environment.Since implementing these tools, I have observed a remarkable transformation in the way students approach challenging situations. The calm-down threading boards have become a favorite among many students. I have seen children who previously struggled with focus and concentration find a sense of calm and accomplishment as they carefully thread the laces through the boards. This simple activity provides them with an outlet for their restlessness and anxiety, allowing them to take a few moments to themselves before rejoining the class with a renewed sense of calm and readiness to learn. The act of threading seems to serve as a mindful practice, promoting patience and attention to detail, which are crucial skills both in and out of the classroom.The calming stickers have also been a wonderful addition. Students eagerly use these stickers to personalize their belongings, and it's amazing to see how something as small as a sticker can bring so much joy and comfort. We have also integrated these stickers into a reward system for positive behavior, which has been highly motivating for the students. More importantly, the stickers serve as a visual reminder of their progress in managing their emotions and making positive choices throughout the day.The calming corner, adorned with soothing stickers and filled with cozy seating, has become a sanctuary for students in need of a break. I've noticed that even those who were initially hesitant to utilize this space are now more open to taking a few minutes there when they feel overwhelmed or upset. It's heartwarming to see students independently recognize when they need to step away and use the corner to regroup. This space not only supports emotional well-being but also fosters a culture of self-awareness and self-care within the classroom.I cannot overstate how much these tools have contributed to a more positive classroom environment. The students seem more engaged, less anxious, and better able to handle the ups and downs of their day. We have even noticed an improvement in peer interactions, as students are now more likely to use these strategies rather than reacting impulsively.   • Hopeful Beginning Of a Roof Top Garden

    We were very excited to receive our soil, planter and seeds to begin our garden for our earth day celebration. Once the students saw the material they were overjoyed to know not only will be planting but we were starting a garden on the roof. Seeing the smiles on their face was so fulfilling.

    As our garden grows we will be adding more planting space . We let students explore and record how the plants are growing.
