Students from Atascadero Middle School come from all walks of life. In the band, we have a cross section that represents the city we live in. We range from well off upper middle class families to families that get the help they need from the ECHO shelter and Loaves and Fishes food distribution. Our band also has a wide range success in academic study areas. All students are welcomed to take up the challenge of learning a musical instrument and being in the band. Our instrumental music program bridges the divide created by varying socio-economic status and varying life experiences. There is no question that learning to play a music instrument is good for a person's social, emotional, and intellectual well being. Collaboration, listening skills and perseverance our great traits to develop in our students and being in the band gives students this opportunity!
