Have you ever just sat there during a class, meeting, or some kind of family event and just found it horribly difficult to stay focused? Through research and general classroom observations over the last two years I have found that students experience that just like you every single day in the classroom. As a classroom teacher, I even experience. I began researching the concept of flexible seating right away after reading about what a difference it could make for the students. In my opinion, flexible seating will change the overall focus and dynamic of my classroom's learning abilities. Sitting still all day long is no longer an option. Even for short periods of time, students with ADHD cannot focus. When you give students options for their seating they have free choice. That immediately intrigues their focus. Then by allowing students to sit the way that allows their brains to best learn, they are only benefitting. They are discovering their learning styles and what works best for them. Flexible seating can prevent classroom distractions because students will no longer feel the need to "adjust" to release that tension developed after settling for long periods of time. Overall, I believe that flexible seating is the way education should be moving to focus on each and every learning style of the child.
