"You don't have any good books." "These books are old and boring." These are some of the comments from the students that find reading difficult. I have found providing relevant, colorful, and entertaining books can greatly help struggling readers to become better readers. When a student finds a book they can love, they step onto the pathway of being a lifelong reader. The Grand Canyon Reader Award is a successful project to highlight picture books that children love. Every spring, all students in Arizona have the opportunity to vote for their favorite picture book. I wish to give my students the same opportunity to have a say about the books they love most.
