Engagement is the key to keep my students learning. My students are active, high energy learners and love to manipulate things. Mathematics and science are two subjects that can be difficult to understand without the physical manipulation of objects. My students need plastic, magnetic and wood cuisenaire rods, magnetic chain rings and the base ten magnets for small groups instruction. The various materials will help them understand decomposing a numbers and fractions. The Elapse time magnets will help me instruct lapse time on the board and students can come up and show their thinking. The beakers and pipettes will help my students understand the difference between milliliter and a liter, just to mention a few. In science, we are studying weather so we could use the weather kit. Habitats, the baobab tree and books will help us learn more about this unique tree that is used for oil and medicine. We are also in need of magnets for our forces and magnets unit. The magnetic science kit, Lego kit, the field detectors, match rigs and fun rings will be used in small group rotations. The magnifying glasses, plastic forceps and the bubbles kit will help give the students a jump start with the scientific method and engineering at the beginning of the year. With your donations, my students will receive support in their mathematics and science studies that will be engaging and fun! Every year I strive to reach all students and create an environment that promotes and fosters a love for learning. The math manipulatives and science activities will help my students explore and begin to understand the many difficult concepts that they have to learn.
