World maps and country flags will support learning in my 9th grade World History classroom by providing visual aids, adding global perspective, and broadening horizons for my rural students. These supplies will help to improve the quality of their learning by showing where they are in relation to the rest of the world as we move through our Document-Based Question learning units. We are fortunate to have exposure to various cultures and many ethnicities because of our unique demographics. I know that my students are receptive to learning about the history of other countries because of how they have learned to bridge cultural differences amongst each other. These students have hearts of pure gold, excellent work ethics, and high achievement despite living in a statistically low post-secondary education community. These students dream of pursuing college and career excellence so that they can return to their home town and invest into future generations. We have been fortunate in the past to receive funding through major grants that support student/teacher development. This has made possible the addition of stability balls as a flexible seating option in my classroom. The students enjoy the freedom, but I believe their experiences would be enhanced with the addition of ten exercise ball chairs to allow for dynamic group arrangements which are common in this culturally responsive Social Studies classroom. These educational supplies are integral to the study of World History and will help my students take advantage of opportunities to achieve high standards.
