I teach in a high-poverty area where the only sense of stability that my first-grade students have, is when they come to school each day. Many of my students do not have a steady home life and depend on school to be the consistent part of their daily routine. The time when students arrive and settle at school each morning is most crucial to easing the transition between home and school. During this period, known as the morning meeting, my class and I work hard to establish a stable classroom community that every student can look forward to joining each day. This consists of a daily routine, including reviewing our schedule, assigning jobs and calendar activities.
