  • Document Camera and Genetics for Collaboration

    Funded Mar 12, 2025

Thank you for your generous donation to my classroom. The students are looking forward to doing labs and testing out materials. The agar art lab will develop skills in problem solving while fostering their creativity. They will also be able to share their ideas with the whiteboards and document camera. This will be a great addition to our classroom.”

  • Paper Circuits help Inspire Problem Solving

    Funded Nov 5, 2024

We used the resources to complete cards that used a circuit to light up a LED. The students had heard that they would be working on cards this holiday season. This helped students with critical thinking and problem solving as they had to create a design for the card that matched up with the LED light. There were many trial and error designs. The students had a great time trying to get the copper tape to line up just right. Their faces also lit up with joy when they were successful in creating the path. The stickers helped students to complete designs faster. Overall, they had a great time celebrating the season with circuits.”

  • Simulating Careers in the Medical Field

    Funded Oct 14, 2024

We unboxed the microscopes right away and began exploring with them. Its nice to have multiple scopes so that many students can be working at the same time. The screens make it very easy to share our findings and take pictures of the data. We tried it on our class pets - mealworms and got a good shot of their appendages. A classmate had injured her thumb and we were able to get a closer look at her nail bed. The microscopes are portable and the larger one can be hooked up to our classroom TV to make the image even larger. We hope to use this to make observations on the mealworms throughout their metamorphosis and to take the video and data down to the elementary school when we do our career presentations.

We also tried out some of the forensics kits. It is good for students to see how keeping a sterile environment, organizing materials and analyzing data. They had a great time working in lab with the equipment.”

  • Mental Health Day for Future Health Professionals

    Funded Aug 12, 2024

The puzzles were greatly appreciated. We used the heart puzzle as part of our heart anatomy and physiology rotations. That table was a popular table. I noticed that it gave students a chance to talk with eachother, tell stories and unwind. It was a low pressure table that was related to content, but students were able to connect on a different level.

I plan on continuing to use the puzzles in our other body units and leave puzzles out for students who finish work early and want to work on them. The puzzle works great as it has the torso and major body systems contained. The students have already expressed an interest in finding similar puzzles to work on. Thank you again for helping my students mental health.”

  • Adding Play Back to Their Day: Coding and Games

    Funded Nov 19, 2023

The mini robots have worked out wonderfully in class. Students are excited when they come out. We have used them in review games as a way to help motivate the students to do well. It also helps to sneak in coding as we play and review other concepts.

The puzzles and other board games have also been a welcome addition to our classroom. Students have played games when they finish work early or as a way to end the quarter. The puzzles have been more popular as they can be left for other classmates to complete or continued on another day. They puzzles are also visually appealing as they are of the body systems that we have recently covered and provide time to discuss important differences in the anatomy.”

  • Textbooks to Help Research and Future Health Professionals

    Funded Nov 28, 2023

We used information from the textbook to conduct a lab on transforming bacteria. We first prepared plates and took some photos of preparing the plates. Then we streaked the plates to grow our bacteria before introducing a glow protein.

The students learned many new techniques and enjoyed the hands on component. They learned sterile technique as they tried to keep plates isolated and clean while pouring. They also learned how to stack and cool the plates. The textbook served as a valuable tool in determining proper lab technique.

We plan on going into phlebotomy next and will be using the IV starts textbook as the reference material for the project. We plan to practice placing IV catheters and injecting medication intravenous and intramuscularly.

Thank you for this opportunity in helping have proper reference material to conduct our labs.”

  • Life as a Lab Technician

    Funded Sep 21, 2023

Thank you for your donation to our classroom. Students have been working hard to perform the labs and analyze results. They were very excited to play the role of vaccine developers. A hands-on lab brought to life the concepts taught in class.

The art project with the bacteria also helped students to be engaged with the material. Students loved how the colors developed over time and it helped them to see how transforming the bacteria resulted in the different colors. They had a good time deciding on what to create and taking the time to select the right color of bacteria for their drawing.

Some items were not available and as a replacement I choose some Halloween themed items like a ghost kit to help students with the idea of light. The students were very happy to have a day dedicated to Halloween since high school does not always invest into the holidays.

The students also created blood models to help teach the components of blood to elementary students.

Overall, the students benefitted from the experiences and we look forward to using them again in the future.”

  • Textbooks for Aspiring Health Professionals

    Funded Mar 30, 2023

Thank you for your donation to our health occupations classroom. The textbooks were used as references for new lessons for the students and as reference material for competitions that students participated in.

Some of the lessons developed from the material are:

    1. Blood Typing with a hands on lab

    2. How to insert an IV using manikins

    3. Anatomy of the heart related to EKG reads

    4. How to interpret bacteria growth

The students enjoyed working with the hands-on lab and having the reference texts were very helpful in making the background information for the lessons and preparing me for the skills that the students would need. I felt much more confident having the resources available.

The students will continue to use the texts in their development of science fair topics and demonstrations to future students.”

  • Inspiring Young Health Professionals

    Funded Mar 3, 2023

The resources were a great addition to the lessons planned for the elementary students. My high school students eagerly played with the materials beforehand and incorporated them into the lessons.

We used the models to help illustrate parts of the heart and body. This helped the elementary students to grasp some of the concepts of the movement of blood through the circulatory system. The giant microbes and stickers were great prizes that motivated the younger students to play the games and remember the material. Overall, a great time was had all around.

My students look forward to planning more elementary visits and have shared their experiences with their peers. Now I have many volunteers to help visit the elementary kids to teach various science lessons. Next up we hope to design a lesson on DNA for the students and introduce genetics.”

  • Digital Display to Save the Day

    Funded Jan 8, 2022

Thank you so much for providing a digital display for us to use with our neulog devices. The students have tested out the devices for heart rate and the force plate. The display has helped students to get real time data as their test subjects go about their activities. The graphical representation has also allowed them to analyze their data quickly and make adjustments to their procedures. The skin sensor has also been a popular tool. The students have been trying to see if they can get a different response based off location of the sensors and location of their subject. They hope to use this for lie detection purposes as they become better at calibrating the devices. Thank you again for your donations to my class and helping students complete better investigations.”

The dissection materials will be used by my health core (9th grade) and human physiology(11th and 12th). My students will use the new dissection materials to replace the old kit which has begin to have missing parts. The kit will ensure that each student will be able to have a hands on part to play in the dissection. This donation will allow students to work through the different body systems in a hands-on, engaging activity. Students will be able to identify and locate body systems as their end of year practical exam. The rat bodies are injected with dyes that will highlight the veins and arteries. This will allow students to see the network of blood vessels that they learned about in the circulatory system. The adult rats have developed musculature and contain all body systems similar to humans: reproductive, cardio-vascular, circulatory, excretory, digestive, and nervous systems. Once the bodies have been used, they will be sutured back up using suturing supplies that I have in my classroom. Students can practice their suturing technique and knots while preparing the rats for disposal. The heart and lung sections will serve as practice dissections for the health core students. While they are going through the cardiovascular system, they will use the dissection to get a concrete example of their anatomy as well as write up a detailed report on functioning of the cardiovascular system.
