  • This Could Be Me!

    Funded Apr 9, 2025

This project is a special one. It’s all about helping my students feel seen and represented in our classroom. It’s about prompting them to see themselves as the people they hope to be come. My hope is that they will let their imaginations run wild, and explore all the possibilities their future can hold. Thank you so much for giving!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lenihan

  • Fill in the blanks!

    Funded Sep 19, 2024

Your donation has helped us in so many ways! We use our pointers daily for our morning meeting and other group work at the carpet. They help my littles lead instruction, and help me take advantage of all of our learning space. My students love a chance to earn rewards from the treasure box, and our power strip has helped us set up a much-needed charging station for our school devices. The most fun has probably been had with our art projects and as you can see, we have put the trays, glue, and crafting supplies to good use! Thank you so much for your generosity!”

    Mrs. Lenihan

  • Classroom Library

    Funded Mar 19, 2024

This bookshelf has transformed our little classroom! Before, our unsteady shelf was braced against the wall. It was over stuffed, making it difficult even for me as an adult in the room to access the books it held. Could my students enjoy independent access to our stories? No way!

These photos show what a huge transformation has taken place. Our new shelf is spacious and appropriately sized for the larger picture books we love in Kindergarten. It allowed me to organize our books in a way that gives my students easy access to stories they can enjoy on their own. This shelf will also keep our treasured library safe, as it rolls shut, locking our books up in between school years. We are SO grateful for your very generous gift!”

  • Reset the Room

    Funded Mar 5, 2024

Putting our classroom back together in the middle of the school year was a daunting task! But it would not have been possible without your generosity. New table shapes needed to be made, new name tags laminated, baskets for water bottles fastened to table legs, and foot pads attached to new chairs. It was all well worth the effort to see my students' excitement at their new set-up! Thanks to you we were able to get back to business as usual in no time. We are all so grateful for your help and thoughtfulness!”

  • Essential Organization

    Funded Feb 4, 2024

This funding opportunity was such a welcome surprise and it came at just the right time! Having just received new tables and chairs, we discovered our seat sacks no longer fit the new furniture. Your donation allowed us to replace this very necessary organizational tool that my students rely on daily. You also provided us with flexible seating which my kids are so excited for! They love having a new comfy way to enjoy a book, find quiet space, build a floor puzzle, or engage in a lesson. I know we will benefit from your gifts for many years to come!”

  • Read On!

    Funded May 8, 2023

As you can see, my students are already enjoying independent reading using the books you helped me put together! I am so excited to see their fluency and joy for reading flourish! Thanks to these leveled decodable readers, my students will find their confidence growing along with their skills. Even now, we are ready to invite their parents to join us for breakfast while they listen to their children read, thus further strengthening our classroom community!

This project has turned out to be quite an endeavor. The first 36 stories are printed, laminated, and bound. I am still working on the rest! Thank you so much for providing me with the materials to make this possible!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lenihan

  • This and That

    Funded Nov 9, 2022

Thank you for helping to fund our project! Since receiving your gifts my students have loved diving into the world created by Jory John and Pete Oswald! The Couch Potato and The Sour Grape were a welcome addition to our classroom library. This month we have been focusing on stories of kindness and friendship, and we loved reading I'm Not Scared, You're Scared as part of our collection.

In addition to our new stories, my students have truly benefited from the privacy dividers. They have helped my kids focus on independent tasks and work privately during quizzes.

Thank you for these wonderful gifts!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lenihan

  • Storage at My Seat

    Funded Dec 1, 2021

Our storage sacks have had such an impact on our daily routines! My students have quick access to their journals, math workbooks, name and number practice, and writing checklists. They also keep their whiteboards, markers, and wipes close at hand for daily phonics and writing practice. Without our at-seat storage we would need to distribute and collect each of these items, wasting valuable learning time, not to mention find shelf space for each of them. The storage sacks have simplified transitions between activities, and encouraged student independence and self-management of materials. Thank you for your gift to us!”

  • For the Love of Books

    Funded Oct 21, 2021

We have been diving in and loving the books you provided for our classroom library! The kids tell me all the time that some of their favorite experiences during their school day are when we read books together, or listen to a read aloud. They daily burst out with "We're readers!", or "I'm a reader!". And it all starts with cultivating that love of books and desire to be a reader, too. Thank you for helping me plant that seed in my students.

We quickly picked some fun ones to be part of our holiday themed reads, and now we are enjoying friendship and kindness themed stories. Beyond a love of reading, these books help develop my students' social and emotional intelligence, and prompt them to discuss ideas they feel in their hearts, but don't always get to talk about. These exercises are so important to our kids, especially now.

Thank you so much for your kindness towards us!”

    With gratitude,

  • Guided Reading at Our Fingertips

    Funded May 18, 2021

We received our new rolling storage cart just in time to wrap up the school year enjoying books together in modified Guided Reading groups! It had been so long since we were able to have Guided Reading in both a safe and convenient way. My kids get so much learning and enjoyment out of these groups, and they had been missed for much of last year. We are very appreciative to you for making the experience accessible to all of us through your gift.

This year our rolling cart is already being put to good use holding many of our daily supplies. We are set up and ready to kick off Guided Reading groups very soon! My students thank you, and so do I!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lenihan

My classroom is made up of 24 Kindergarteners, between 4 and 6 years old, full of curiosity and energy. We learn in a fully mainstreamed inner city school, which means my students come with a wide range of often challenging needs, and not a lot of resources with which to meet them. That said, we are resourceful, and every year we find a way to make it a welcoming place where gentle characters are shaped, and love for learning thrives.
