The Cold War was “cold” primarily because of the threat of nuclear weapons. At the height of the Cold War, the combined weapons of both countries were enough to destroy the world six times over. The two “superpowers” used their weapons as a deterrent against nuclear war. Dr. Seuss' Butter Battle Book provides a representation of the Cold War in a fun, exciting, and engaging way for students. These books will allow students to work in groups to compare/contrast the ideas of Dr. Seuss with the actual accounts of the cold war. They will be able to gain real world ideas in different ways.
