These Chromebooks will be used by twenty-four third graders in a general education classroom. We will be using these Chromebooks to increase grammar, vocabulary, and spelling skills by utilizing Spelling City. This online program was recently purchased by our district to help increase standardized testing scores. This program is directed at differentiated learning for all reading and spelling levels. Currently, my class has access to 25 Chromebooks that are shared with 3 other third grade classrooms. That is 100 students sharing a vital piece of technology that could be used daily in every classroom. Due to scheduling constrictions, I have these available 2 times a week maximum. We will also be using our classroom Chromebooks to publish written stories, create presentations using Google Apps, research subjects for science and social studies content standards, and participate in collaborative learning opportunities that will encourage self-directed learning. We will also be able to utilize Class Flow and our Promethean Board on a daily basis. This will help in reviewing, introducing, engaging, and promoting critical thinking for every student. Another useful resource is Kahoot. This is a high interest activity that requires each student to interact with their learning using their own device. This year I’ve introduced Google Apps for Education to my students. Having a class set of Chromebooks within our classroom will allow students to explore Google apps. They can collaborate to expand their learning in preparation for the technologically advanced society we live in. I would love to provide the students who do not have access to a technology device the opportunity to check-out a Chromebook for home use. My true passion is technology, and I look forward to sharing this with my current and future students.
