Access to books is one of the most important factors in creating lifelong readers. In our fourth grade classroom, access to a wide variety of books will create a reading environment in which all students have choices both inside and outside of their reading comfort zone. Students should have their reading interests represented as well as have access to new genres for them to explore. Series books are important reading tools for getting young readers hooked and invested in a story. Among the books we would like to purchase are several complete series sets for students to get lost in. Multiple copies of the same book will be utilized for book clubs and literature circles so that students can share their reading experience with others. Post-modern picturebooks will be incorporated into our weekly read aloud and provide students with the opportunity to educate their imaginations by discussing a unique and complex genre. By providing students with current children's literature, we ensure that our young readers are engaged by content that is both relatable and enriching. Through cross-referencing lists of current popular children's literature, award-winning books, and the input of my own students, I have selected an abundance of rich and engaging literature to enhance our classroom library and create lifelong readers!
