  • School Should Feel Like a Warm Hug!

    Funded Mar 8, 2024

Thank you so much for your continued support of my school and classroom. Students were so excited when they saw the new stuffed animals! Students were very excited to visit the 'Bee store' and redeem their points for these new prizes!

As the school year is coming to a close, students are getting ready for summer and for the next year. I am looking forward to welcoming a new group of students next year. Based on my experience this year, I will continue to survey students for their likes to determine what will go in next years' bee store.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Cloer

  • "You're Braver Than You Think" - Barbie

    Funded Dec 15, 2023

Myself, the staff, and the students at PS 76 are very grateful for your generous donations. Our school believes in reinforcing positive behavior and rewarding students for their hard work. At the beginning of this school year the PBIS committee in which I was a part of met to brainstorm ideas of what students might like to see in our school "Bee" store. We also went back to our classrooms and asked our students. So many of our students said Barbie dolls!

Our school is part of the diverse NYC Department of Education so it was essential to us that our students saw themselves represented in these barbie dolls. The barbies selected had different skin tones, body types, clothes, and careers. One student was so excited after the bee store that she ran up to me to show me the Barbie doll! I'm very excited for the rest of the school year to see all our children achieve in and out of the classroom.”

  • Get Lost in Great Books!

    Funded Apr 16, 2019

Over the summer, I took the time to reflect on past school year to get ready for this one. One of my biggest reflections was on the growth of my students in reading! Students had moved 2, 3, and 4 reading levels from when they were tested in February to when they were assessed in May! Some made a full years growth in just a few short months! This had so much to do with your generous support and the new books, our classroom received.

The books we received were high-interest and at a variety of levels. As students grew more successful, I was able to challenge them with another interesting book at the next level. Students worked in their reciprocal reading groups to independently read these books and participate in a discussion around the book. Discussions ranged from analyzing quotes from character, interpreting difficult vocabulary, and inferring character actions. These discussions were all lead by students because they were so engaged in the texts!

I know my students from last year will achieve success in 4th grade and I am so excited to watch my new 3rd graders grow.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Cloer

  • School Supplies, Oh My!

    Funded Jul 1, 2019

Thank you for your generous donation to help prepare my classes for the next school year. For the first time, my 3rd graders will be switching classes for math and reading. These supplies will help my students greatly in keeping organized, as well as help the financial burden that many of my students and their families face. I am continuously in awe of the Donors Choose community and the opportunities they allow my students and students everywhere. Have a wonderful summer and I can't wait to share next year with you!”

  • Help spark our FIRE to learn with Tablets!

    Funded Oct 3, 2017

Thank you so much for your generous donations. With your help we now have 8 tablets that the students use daily! Students are able to use the the tablets to read on myon, a program that allows students to access thousands of books. We are able to play interactive math review games on the website Kahoot, in which the students work collaboratively to answer questions. Currently, we are using the tablets to research animals to write informational reports.

The students are so grateful that all of you care so much about furthering their education. The students love having more choices and opportunities to learn new things that the tablet provides.

Some students who did not love reading, now look forward to independent reading time! Struggling students are able to receive extra support through programs on the tablets. The students can see themselves improving and achieving every day thanks to you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Cloer

Having a set of tablets in our classroom will help differentiate instruction for struggling learners. Our school has a variety of resources and computer based programs available, however my classroom is currently only equipped with three desk top computers. Therefore, students receive a limited amount of computer time. The programs our school has available, tailor learning to each individual student based on their interests and learning needs. Access to more technology will increase student achievement. Integrating technology into the classroom is an effective way to connect students of all learning styles. Having these tablets will be an amazing opportunity for the students to have hands on and engaging learning experiences. In addition, the tablets will enhance instruction and allow students access to technology that they ordinarily might not have exposure to.
