Funded Apr 16, 2019Over the summer, I took the time to reflect on past school year to get ready for this one. One of my biggest reflections was on the growth of my students in reading! Students had moved 2, 3, and 4 reading levels from when they were tested in February to when they were assessed in May! Some made a full years growth in just a few short months! This had so much to do with your generous support and the new books, our classroom received.
The books we received were high-interest and at a variety of levels. As students grew more successful, I was able to challenge them with another interesting book at the next level. Students worked in their reciprocal reading groups to independently read these books and participate in a discussion around the book. Discussions ranged from analyzing quotes from character, interpreting difficult vocabulary, and inferring character actions. These discussions were all lead by students because they were so engaged in the texts!
I know my students from last year will achieve success in 4th grade and I am so excited to watch my new 3rd graders grow.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Cloer
