  • Weekly Reader magazine for Kindergarten

    Funded Sep 14, 2009

I want to extend my gratitude for funding this project for my class. I have used Weekly Reader before and know what an invaluable resource it is. It has helped to complement the curriculum because the articles cover the all the core content areas of science, social studies, mathematics, reading, and writing. It is interesting to see how my students respond after reading the articles. They ask so many questions! They are genuinely curious and they are eager to learn more on the topics they read. This makes me very happy because I know they are building up their love of learning and their love of reading. I feel as if your support is helping to close the gap between advantaged and disadvantaged children. My class is proof of how disadvantaged children can succeed given access to materials that complement the curriculum.

My students are very excited and appreciative as well. They look forward to the next issue every week. I have found that it has motivated my emergent readers as they use the pictures and the repetitive pattern of the texts to read. It has also provided a challenge for my advanced readers because they can read the words on their own and learn a lot of content from this non-fiction resource.

Most of the parents in this class would not have been able to buy the year-long subscription to the Weekly Reader. They are glad that this project was funded. You should feel very happy because you really made an impact in my class. Thanks to you I will be able to teach the non-fiction reading unit without fearing a lack of materials. I hope that this project motivates you to fund future projects at Donor Choose because you make a difference in our students' education.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Almanzar

  • "Let's Find Out" Magazine for Kindergarten

    Funded Jan 15, 2009

Thank you so so much for funding this proposal. You are the best! My kindergarteners will learn how to read before they get to first grade!!! Yay!! I am so excited and my students will be too once they receive the newsletters! They will be very interested in learning to read because the topics they read about are meaningful to them. The topics also correlate to the themes we study in kindergarten. There are also activities that they complete each month and they get to take the newsletters home and show their parents how they can read them all by themselves. Once again I extend to you my heartfelt thanks. You have made our year!

    Sincerely,

    Sara”

I cannot begin to thank you enough! I am so excited! My kindergarteners are so excited that they will be receiving a magazine that will further help them to read and write!! We love you and we will be sending you thank you notes and pictures to show how we use the magazine in the class. Once again... Thank You... Thank You... Thank You!! :-”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Almanzar

Please support my kindergrtners in learning to read! I teach inner city kindergartners in New York where approximately 80% of the students receive free lunch. This is a high need community that would greatly appreciate your support in funding this proposal.
