To "Unlock Your Mathabilities" students will use combination locks to solve their problems using learned skills. Students will work problems that result in a code to one of the combination locks. Getting a problem incorrect will result in the lock not being able to open, while solving it correctly will open the lock, allowing them to complete the challenge and move on to the next step. This activity allows for the students to work independently or cooperatively and check their work at their own pace. My students are very "hands-on," even when surrounded by educational technology. The activities we can create using these combination locks will provide a way for students to get up, move, and manipulate materials. With the locks we can use math problem circuits by placing problems or clues in lock boxes that would then lead to sequenced steps or the next problem of their assignments. We would also be able to use the locks for physical "escape the classroom" scenarios which would require students to solve problems or clues in order to open each lock in a sequence.
