I am a first year teacher and I came into this year full of ideas. When the year began, it didn't take me long to notice that the students and I both felt limited. They were not as engaged as I felt they should be and always seemed uncomfortable in their desks. I began trying to rearrange the desks in ways to help them become more collaborative. This helped some but I still have so many students that either constantly fidget in their chairs or would just rather stand up all together. This is when I heard about flexible seating. I LOVED the idea as soon as I heard about it from other teachers and it's benefit on the students. However, it seemed impossible to fund this on my own. Therefore, I am seeking donors to help fund my class' change to become a flexible seating room. Flexible classrooms give students a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them, and help them to work collaboratively, communicate, and engage in critical thinking. Flexible seating comes when students have the ability and option to sit wherever deems appropriate for their best learning to be done. I am seeking 4 various seating choices including: stability balls, stools, wobble chairs as well as balance discs for floor seating. With these options, students will be able to see what space works best for them, whether it be to bounce on a ball or simply sit on a stool. With your help, the students will have various seating options to choose from (including typical student desks & chairs). They wil The world of education is changing, as well as our students. They deserve the opportunity to have a choice in how and where they learn!
