We live in rural Montana. We tend to have students who have had little experience in the public sphere. Many only hear what news they have on one channel, and are completely unused to engaging in a political dialog offering multiple points of view in a challenging academic setting. Our school is a small "B" school with a total enrollment (9-12) of around 130. Many of the students have grown up with each other, and tend to assume they know what each other thinks. While on the surface this seems apparent, once they become engaged they begin to realize they can indeed have discussions and arguments in a positive environment. My goal is to use this material to teach them that the "founding fathers" of our political system can and did disagree with each other, but still had a mutual goal of creating a functioning political system.
