English Learners Tools
Funded Jan 7, 2023Thank you so much for impacting my students through your donations! We could not have completed our state testing without these headphones.
How is the technology helping my students learn?
The students use a program for 20 minutes a day called Lexia English. This computer program allows students to grow in their English Speaking and Listening. Because the speaking is being practiced, a microphone is needed so the computer can pick up over the voices of other students in the classroom. I have had several new-to-the-country- students come in fourth grade this year, so the program has been a wonderful help in their knowledge gaining.
What about the new product is most exciting to my students?
The students think it is SO COOL to have headphones with microphones! This is encouraging to me as their teacher, because they want to speak into them.
Are there particular students who have especially warmed to this new technology, and how so?
I can't think of a singular student that sticks out more than others with these headphones. They were all very grateful that we were able to use these headphones to take our State WIDA assessment in February and March. The students spent four days showing the growth they have made in Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing!”

Ms. G's Technology Station
Funded Mar 3, 2017Thank you so much for your generosity and kindness. My students are already enjoying learning on another level. One of the things my students have used these iPads for is an app called Epic! It is like a "Netflix of books" for the kids. They can find so many different book based on their age, interests, and levels. The books can be read to them or they can read it themselves. It has been used every day since we received the iPads.
We also can do QR scavenger hunts. My students love these the most! QR codes can be scanned through an app and either take you to a question or take you to a video. The students have their recording sheet and can scan the code to get a multiplication or language question, answer it on their sheet, and move to the next number. There are a number of other wonderful learning apps being used as well.
Some of my boys, I could not get motivated or excited for learning with anything. Now that we have these iPads, they are willing to get involved and ready to learn. There are so many awesome things to be done with these iPads and I am so excited to continue this learning with technology!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Garcia
