Access to an interactive white board would make a WORLD of DIFFERENCE! The majority of my students and all future students, have autism and are non-verbal. That means that they rely on pictures to communicate their basic wants and needs. Many students also use an iPad to communicate and it makes the most sense to me that I am able to communicate and teach the curriculum in away that is familiar and the most appropriate for their development! An interactive white board would bring the curriculum to life and give my non-verbal students with autism that basic cause and effect learning that is most appropriate for their developmental levels. I envision my students being more engaged, having higher comprehension, and expanding their development, especially in this primary stage of schooling, where they are still developing basic learning to learn skills. Equity verse equality is so important when it comes to students, especially students with specials needs like mine, with non-verbal autism, ADHD, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, intellectual disabilities, and behavioral needs. Not all students learn the same way and it's our job as educators to give students the access they need to learn in the most appropriate and meaningful way.
