  • Reading Opens Minds

    Funded Sep 25, 2023

Thank you so much for the wonderful books that were donated to my second-graders! They are so excited to read them! I purchased many non-fiction books, and the students love sharing the facts that they are learning about with myself and other students.

When the boxes first came to my classroom, the squeals of excitement could be heard by all! I told them we were getting new books for our classroom library, and they had been patiently waiting for their arrival. They could hardly wait for me to get all the books in order so they could begin their new reading journey.

I plan on using these materials as a way to motivate my students to read. My end goal is that they learn to see that reading can take them many places. Through your kind donation, they are able to have these books at their fingertips. Thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Schlup

  • iPads and Technology in the Classroom

    Funded Aug 31, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous donation of an iPad with the needed accessories that was given to my students in my classroom.

The iPad is being used for multiple things. I use the iPad to assess the students on their DIBELS 8 assessment. Students are assessed in nonsense-word fluency, whole word fluency and oral reading. I progress monitor my students weekly to determine the growth that they are making. I use this information to plan both my whole group and small group lessons so that I can meet the needs of all students. Because many of my second-graders are becoming very fluent in reading both nonsense and whole words, it can be difficult to keep up with their quick reading on my computer. This is where the iPad comes into play! It is much easier to score these quick little readers on an iPad! The touch screen allows me to move faster and be more accurate. Thank you so much for providing me with this tool! My lessons are helping all of my students grow weekly.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Schlup
