My students are constantly asking me if they can complete assignments in different parts of the room. Some of them like to sit on the floor, some like to sit at different tables. They seem to work best and are the most engaged when they are comfortable with where they are sitting. During my lessons a lot of my students tend to do whatever it takes to simply get up and walk across the room to get some of their energy out. With the help of these new flexible seating options, my students will be able to get their energy out while staying focused on the task at hand. We are trying to move away from the traditional classroom model and move towards a model where students are able to learn without giving up their personality and enthusiasm. The balance balls and stools I am trying to acquire through this project will allow my students to consistently move without distracting others. The clipboards will allow my students to sit on the carpet or in other parts of the room. My students with ADHD and ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) will especially benefit from this project. The school day will be more enjoyable for my students and I truly believe these seating options will help them all remain focused on their work.
