Alaska Photographers
Funded Aug 27, 2021My students have used these cameras to take pictures for our monthly newsletter, take pictures for our yearbook, and take pictures for their personal PowerPoint Project.
These professional cameras are much better than cell phone cameras or I-pads. They help students recognize the power of photography. They help students better understand how to frame a picture, how to edit a picture, how to adjust for lighting and darkness.
My challenge to my class is to become professional photographers. Our state and our region continue to be host from photographers around the world who record the natural beauty of our state. These young photographers see their state with a more authentic vision than outsiders.”

Toothbrushes for Alaskan Kids
Funded Oct 14, 2019Thank you so much for remembering my students. Your donation of toothbrushes, toothpaste, and school supplies if much appreciated.
Something simple, like brushing your teeth after breakfast, lunch, and snacks, is an excellent habit to begin as an elementary student. Many of us as adults regret that we only adopted good oral hygiene habits much later in life.
Our rural Alaskan village may be lacking many of the comforts and amenities found in most U.S. schools, but the spirit of the students is exciting.
Thanks again for your support.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Livia & Biz Stone and 4 other donors.Photography in the Mountains.
Funded Jan 30, 2019Thank you so much with your generous contribution for the purchase of two Canon cameras. The students in our photography class put the cameras to good use. Literally a week later our school hosted our Regional Basketball Championship tournament which was followed by our District Prom. As you can imagine, there were plenty of opportunities for great pictures.
They took pictures of the games in actions, as well as the award ceremony after the games where the All Tourney Team and winning teams were recognized.
Thanks again for your support. These cameras will be used for many years.”

Alaska History for Alaskans
Funded Mar 1, 2018Thank you so much for remembering my students. Believe it or not, there is no comprehensive textbook which covers all of Alaska history. As a result, we have to use multiple resources. The stories of our native ancestors are often overlooked in histories of Alaska. These books are a step forward to give us a fuller appreciation of our own history.
Our students are in an alternative program which is designed to help drop-outs and failing students recover their interest in school and move forward on the path toward graduation. This class in Alaska history helps to give them a deeper insight of their native state and culture.
Thanks again for your support.”

Biology 101 in the Alaska Bush
Funded Dec 27, 2017Thank you so much for your generous donation. This microscope, slides, and other equipment will help my students as they student science in their Biology Class. We are surrounded by a huge ocean, which is a natural laboratory for the study of science. The microscope will help them understand the tiny plankton in the sea, which are key to the healthy life of all fish.
My students are from a rural Yup'ik Alaskan fishing village. They are in an alternative program designed to help them complete their requirements for graduation. Again thanks for your contribution.”

Binders for Alaskan Students #1
Funded Aug 18, 2016The beginning of the school year is an exciting time for students, teachers, parents, family members, and other community members. For many of our students, whose families have limited income, buying school supplies is not as important as food and clothes. That is where you came in. Starting the year on the right foot is an important way to guarantee success for the rest of the year. A big thanks to your support and generosity for helping our students start the year with their necessary supplies.”
