In my Exploratory class, we are finding different ways to learn about our world. We have learned about different religions, spend time learning about and creating projects based on individual passions, and have taken the time to learn about the world through reading. For the last quarter of the year, we would like to give back to our community in order to learn more about the people in our area. My students have decided that they will work with the local nursing home in order to learn more about their hometown from a new perspective. They will write letters, visit, and most importantly, make handmade blankets, and non-slip socks to give back to their new friends. We would like to use fleece fabric to make warm blankets that the residents can use in their rooms. We would also like to use fabric puffy paint to decorate warm socks. The paint will make the socks non-slip so that they are both warm and safe for the residents. Any extra fabric that we can gather will be used to make new pillowcases to go with the blankets.
