Bring Color to My Students!
Funded Sep 6, 2023Thank you for your kind and generous donation to my classroom! We have already utilized the color printer and your donated ink to create engaging materials for students. In addition, we were able to include two new projects that we have not done in the past because we lacked a color printer.
Students created an "Enlightened Thinker Magazine Project" that illustrated the important ideas of the Enlightenment thinkers. In addition, they created an "Enduring Issues Collage Project" to unpack the ways that revolutionary movements have endured over time. Students were able to create colorful and engaging projects they were excited about. I was also able to hang them around the room, to engage students more fully with what they are learning.
I am truly grateful to you for bringing color into my classroom!”

Vital Technology To Impact Student Learning
Funded Sep 29, 2022Thank you for making student projects and handouts possible! I have been struggling to use the copier and printers in my school, as our school runs out of ink often and the copiers break. In New York City, the Department of Education only replaces ink for our copies when they run out, which means that a week can go by before we can print and copy work for our students. Additionally, we do not have color printers, so handouts are always in black and white. I teach history, which means a lot of images rely on color to illustrate the topic. Charts, in particular, require color printing. Our new printer makes it so easy to focus students on exciting handouts and projects.
This year I have used the printer to make copies of maps and reproductions of art. Students have used the printer to create poster projects and to illustrate their learning. They love it so much that I have been the fan favorite teacher for kiddos who need their other classwork printed.
In addition, I generally don't assign projects that require color graphics because our students are low income and cannot afford to print colorful photos or images. Now, I can assign projects that allow for greater imagination. I have several students who struggle academically, but with the poster projects they are able to show their abilities in a non traditional way. The Enlightenment project I assigned is a terrific example. I asked students to create an "Enlightened Magazine" in which they showed the achievements of Enlightened philosophers such as John Locke and Olympe de Gouges. The students who aren't fabulous writers or test takers created fantastic works! I was able to print their work and show it off to the entire school. They were so proud of themselves and it gave them the confidence and boost they needed to focus and do even greater work in class.
I am grateful for your great support. This was incredibly helpful to me and my students.”

This classroom project was brought to life by An Anonymous Classroom Supporter and 4 other donors.Equitable Historical Presentations
Funded Sep 21, 2020Thank you for all of your support that you have given me. By creating a space in which I can teach from home with technology that enhances my presentations, my students have been learning quite a lot! My students love seeing my virtual backgrounds. Each day I tailor the background to fit my lessons or the special events. For instance, during Women's History Month, I highlighted different BIPOC women artists' work. During Black History Month I highlighted Black artists that our students had never heard about before. In our lesson about Japan I presented from Mt. Fuji!. The speaker also allows for crystal clear sound and the camera has been indispensable. My camera on my computer is terrible, highly pixelated and unclear. With the Logitech camera I was able to purchase, I can see my students and they can see my very clearly.
I notice that my remote class has the highest attendance. I truly believe that the technology I have gotten has made it a better experience for them. I use interactive online platforms with videos and music and without the technology I would not be able to do that.
This year has been an overwhelming challenge, but the donations you gave made it a little easier to handle, and made my students' challenges a little lighter.”

Superheroes, History and Justice
Funded Aug 28, 2019Thank you so very much for your kind donation! Students were incredibly excited to read and discuss the genre of the superhero. We discussed the characteristics of the typical American superhero and how that narrative has been changing in recent years with the introduction of Ms. Marvel, the first Muslim superhero and America Chavez, a latin-x and LGBTQ superhero. In addition, we explored the importance of Black Panther in challenging the narrative of people of color in our media. Students were then assigned a project in which they had to develop their own superheroes based on an event in history or a modern day issue. Many students chose to focus their superheroes on climate change. Their costumes, their powers and their origin stories reflect their own opinions and hopes for our future.
My students and I are grateful for your support. I look forward to teaching this again to a new cohort, with the comics you have given us, for years to come.”
With gratitude,
Ms. T.
