All of my students strive to do their best at school. For some, there are many factors that can make learning more difficult. As a special education teacher, I support students with a wide variety off needs. Increasingly, many students in my school have shown difficulty with social and emotional skills. As a school, we have implemented a variety of supports to meet those needs, like daily social skills curriculum, calm corners, sensory breaks, and more. However, I want to do more! Last school year, I started using the Zones of Regulation Curriculum with a small group of students to support identifying and managing their emotions. I strive to continue that work, but want to continue to build upon that program and work with colleagues to support more students needing help. With the social and emotional skills resources in this project, I want to provide more hands-on and engaging materials to get students actively involved in building mindfulness, working on their Zones of Regulation skills through the four colored zones (red, yellow, blue, and green), and growing their social and emotional skills. The supplies, read-alouds, and games in this project will allow me the opportunity to enhance and expand the small group work that I have started. With the transition back to school after a long time away, my students will need this help more than ever. Please consider helping me get some of these fun materials in the hands of my kids to help them reach their goals.
