Fun Physics!
Funded Mar 8, 2018I don't have the words for how thankful I am for your generous donation. The amount of learning and understanding that has taken place in the month that we have had these new textbooks is leaps and bounds further than I would have imagined with our old, dated curriculum.
The students used the new textbooks and their understanding of physics concepts to attend and compete in our local engineering expo. They had to create projects that met different categories. Our kids competed in bridge builder, human wallpaper, impromptu design, and the scrambler. In each event the students must rely on their physics knowledge and expertise to design their projects. Overall, the kids loved the experience and were very thankful for the new textbooks.
I can tell you that the students jumped up to grab the new books as soon as they came in the mail and the learning just took off from there. They used their knowledge to work together on a final project where they constructed a model home and wired the home using the book as a guide on basic circuitry. I am so grateful for the donation that has allowed me to jump start my physics curriculum and instill that passion and wonder that was missing with the old, dated curriculum. I will be forever grateful.”

Earth Science....The Forgotten, Yet Very Important Science.
Funded Mar 29, 2017We cannot thank you enough for your donation of these textbooks. The impact has been tremendous and the kids have been learning alot so far this year. Before your generous donation we were short on textbooks and they were outdated and, to be blunt, boring to read. These textbooks not only outline the importance of physical science in our world today, but they also incorporate the Earth Sciences within those concepts. These new texts push the students to focus on real world applications of the materials and that is the goal of student learning.
Making connections is crucial to getting kids to learn and stay motivated in the content, and with the help of this textbook we are striving to do that everyday. We use the textbook in class in a number of ways. The first method is typical lecture and reading of the textbook. Students are often asked to read and answer questions within the book while I supplement the reading with lecture notes in order to enhance student learning. We do several topics and projects in class that use the book as a basis for understanding. Without this textbook, students would struggle in learning the content and making connections.
We just completed a project called King of the Hill. The students constructed self-propelled cars that were designed to win a king of the hill type of competition to study momentum. I saw several students engaged and motivated to learn the content that had been presented in their textbooks. Those students really enjoy the textbook and reading the textbook on a consistent basis. I also have an extracurricular robotics group that has been using the textbook as a basis for their planning and construction. Overall, it has been such a tremendous donation and we are so very grateful for the donation. These books will continue to serve student learning for many, many years and I personally thank you for the selfless donation and support of continued education. Thank you so much.”
With gratitude,
