Recently, I was able to receive enough funds to purchase a mini magnetic marker board for each student in my class. The students love using them! Currently we are using them to spell words and practice writing letters during phonics and writing. Students sound out and write words with me as I am writing them, and they also will practice forming letters correctly as we learn them. The markers will also benefit us in mathematics-the students can practice forming numbers or work out math problems on their boards as we learn. However, I was able to purchase markers on clearance a few years ago, and my markers have seen their last breathes of life and color. We are almost out of markers to use! I need new markers for the students to use so that they can continue to be engaged during the learning process. I also need magnetic letters for students to use to build and spell words during our phonics lessons. Students need the manipulatives because touching the letters as they build the words gives them a concrete understanding of the letter and sound relationship. These letters also will give me the chance to check learning as students are working-I can see if I call out a sound if they touch the wrong letter or correct letter. I am asking for a lot of magnetic letters because I want each student to have their own individual letter set to use during lessons.
