STEM Kits and Flexible Seating for Our G & T
Funded Sep 19, 2024Thank you so much for your thoughtful and caring donations. The children are incredibly happy with their new seats! It provides an extra cozy meditation corner and flexible seating for those who need it. The glue sticks are truly one of the greatest gifts! The scholars use it constantly for math, projects and art pieces; it is unbelievable how glue sticks can make a difference in a classroom.
The scholars are most impressed with the simple machine STEM kits! They are ecstatic to build their own invention with the elements of simple machines. We appreciate your donation and wish you a wonderful new year! May all the love and generosity you have given to us be brought back to you ten fold!”

Funded Sep 21, 2022Thank you for your generosity and support. The children are completely in love with their wobble stools! They use it each day, all day-unless it is for an assessment. The stools are adjustable and give all children the ability to sit in them comfortably and provide a little movement for those scholars who need it. The wobble stools surround my guided reading table and bring joy to the lessons. Your donation supported our classroom with flexible seating.
The antiperspirants and bathing wipes have given my scholars comfort. Some of my students live in temporary housing. Your donations gave the children a variety of deodorants and Rinse Free No Water Disposable Cleansing Wipes. The students are happy knowing they can access the resources whenever they want. Thank you for your kind heart.
The children and I deeply appreciate it!”

Funded Sep 10, 2022Thank you for your continuous; love, support and thoughtfulness throughout my years of teaching. The scholars have been working incredibly hard to try and catch up any gaps of knowledge from the pandemic years. We are getting ready to take the state exam, as well as the rest of the end of year assessments. Aside from the journey of growing up academically, all the scholars lost some crucial years of social emotional learning. Thanks to your donations the scholars have had access to social-emotional board games that allow them the accessibility of practicing kind-community and positive actions through games.
The children have enjoyed playing games that help them think about each other's perspectives and their approach on how to handle a situation. The games have given the children a positive and fun understanding of what social emotional learning is. It has been one of the most popular options in the mindfulness corner, the kids love it!
The Family engagements language packets have truly connected me to the families in my classroom. I have scholars whose parents only speak Arabic or Spanish and at times have difficulty working with their children, specifically in learning English. The language packets allow the children to practice language through play. What I love most about the language packets is that they come in multiple languages to give multiple cultures and families the opportunity to play and practice English with their child on their own time.
You have our sincerest gratitude!”

Brooklyn Scholars Embracing Refugees Scholars
Funded May 3, 2022The scholars have been having a blast reading the culturally relevant book, The New Kid. We have been using the book to discuss; character traits, problems and solutions in a fictional story. The bilingual children have been excited to have the same books as their peers in Spanish, they have all been sharing ideas and thoughts about the story regardless of language barrier.
The headphones have truly saved the day; the children are able to use it as they work with audio books and other academic practices. The time dominoes have been an engaging center for mathematical review. Each child received the travel-sized hand sanitizer and the class has been using Lysol wipes daily to prevent COVID-19.
The greatest impact from your donations was the discreet accessibility to socks and body cleansing wipes-the children truly appreciate it. Some of the children in our classroom live in temporary housing and at times do not have access to basic needs. Your generosity has given the children the independence to take care of themselves without the worry of others.
We in fourth grade, express our deepest gratitude for your thoughtful contribution to our class and our everyday life!”

Funded Nov 23, 2020This year has truly tested the children's ability to overcome and to thrive! My scholar's have been able to transition between remote and on-site on numerous occasions with their materials- thanks to your generosity!
Presently some of my scholars are preparing for the state exam; it seems surreal, however most of the past year has felt that way. I was deeply grateful that my students had actual books and headphones to join our online classes and create a semblance of normalcy, no matter their location. In their book clubs the children were able to share and discuss their stories as teams. The scholars loved breakout rooms where they would elevate each other's reading skills by reading aloud and creating their own comprehension questions. The scholars cherished book clubs and reading with their peers; especially the remote and on-site scholars who never actually see each other in person.
Thank you for reminding the children that we are not alone and we wish for them all to succeed!”

Funded Aug 11, 2020As you know the school year has had numerous changes in NYC. We have switched from blended to remote, back to blended and again to remote. Each time there was an unpredicted swap, my class was able to endure the turburlances because of your generous donations.
The scholars had their headphones and were able to carry their books where ever they went. If their device lost battery; they were able to pull out their books and pencils and get back to work. The students have been laughing about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory together regardless of location. That has given them such positive reinforcement for their social emotional skills- even from a distance. Your donation gave my students a stronger sense of resilience because they had the materials they needed to problem solve. Including myself, I was able to use the iPad stand in the classroom to project the scholars work. Then I was able to utilize it for distance learning, by connecting the iPad to my computer and projecting my hand writing for the students. It truly changed my pedagogy because I was able to write and look at the scholars at the same time. Thank you all so much!
We are wishing you all, Happy Holidays and a healthy New Year!

Funded Aug 11, 2020As we prepare for another probable closure and return to complete distance-remote learning; I want to give you all my deepest thank you and words of gratitude. I was able to give my students the math supplies they needed to be successful remotely this year. It was because of your generosity and warm hearts the students were able to go home with a full bag of math tools and resources. My scholars could not wait to go home and show their parents their new protractors and fraction materials. We are not sure when will be our last day of blended learning together but, I am confident the scholars have the materials and books they need to thrive! The scholars were thrilled to see new chapter books that they were familiar with. They were most excited to hear that they get to keep the books!
I believe the scholars will have a more successful year in distance learning than the year before and it is all because of you. There are no words to truly express the gratitude and happiness I feel because so many generous people came together to give my students the supplies they needed to feel equipped to take on the world. I wish you all a healthy, safe and happy holidays! There are 30 students out in Brooklyn grateful and thinking of you. Thank you!”

Funded Sep 17, 2019Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom. My scholars were so thrilled to walk in and see a meditation corner with comfy chairs! Your donation provided flexible seating for my students to take turns working and discussing academics. The students are happy to work in different areas in the room. One of my scholars' favorite gifts from Donors Choose was the Venn Diagram chart. Often the scholars will be asked to write their ideas on post its and place them where they belong (comparing/ contrasting). Sometimes, however the post its would fall and the scholars would get annoyed putting them back up. Now the Venn Diagram chart they have makes sure their post it's do not fly off when they share their thoughts.
When the box arrived with the caddies for each table, the students were smiling and ready to set them up. They were excited to have a place for their pencils and to be able to organize their materials. I am lucky to have second graders who enjoy organizing! Thank you for much for giving the scholars' crayons that are of all skin tones. My students showed their art with pride because they felt each piece of their writing was just-right, including the skin tones of their families. Your lovely donation has given me the opportunity to open up my scholars and be a better teacher. Happy Holidays!”

Funded Oct 18, 2017Your generous donation provided the class with dual language, fun books! Wonderful, cushiony headphones the students use to practice Spanish vocabulary and listen to audio books. The scholars were excited to see that many books came with the audio CD. My first-grade scholars' favorite book to read is the Spanish version of The Real Story of the Three Little Pigs By: A. Wolf. They giggle hearing the different characters' voices and learning new Spanish terms. The students are more comfortable repeating Spanish words when they have the power to rewind and pause.
Pre- kindergarten and kindergarten students particularly reach for the Spanish individual letter, alphabet books. The young students find Spanish letters interesting that they do not see in English; such as; "rr," "ll," and "ñ." In class, we spoke about how to pronounce each letter and how to sounds out words. Spanish class has become a happier and more independent form of study. If scholars finish their work early they are given the choice to play with; a Spanish alphabet game, listening center with story books, or the IPad to practice what they feel they need.
One of my favorite books that was generously donated was, A Chair for My Mother by: Vera Williams. The scholars in all grades are in love with the English version; a young girl, her mother, and grandmother save money together in a jar to buy a comfy, couch. Their previous possessions had been burned down in a fire. The story clutches to my heart because I have nearly 5 scholars throughout grades Pre- K -4th grade who have lost their homes to fires. The book shares a message of strength and finding happiness in any setting, which my scholars are gems at doing. Thank you for your kind donation and giving my students more tools to build their language skills. They have so much joy with their new resources. Have a beautiful new year!”
