The students work on computers in my classroom every single day. They love both math and reading programs that keep them engaged and increase fluency in both subjects. However, with a group of 23, 5 computers only go so far. With a set of 5 Chromebooks, my students could increase their math and reading skills considerably. They would also be able to take their learning a step further, with research-based projects. At the beginning of the year, my class was only 19% fluent in addition and subtraction facts. With five computers and daily rotations to this station, they have grown to 51% fluent in 5 months. That means they have gained 1,820 facts as a class and 80 facts per student! Imagine what my class could do with 5 extra ways to practice their fact fluency. They would be 100% proficient in math facts by the end of the school year. In reading, between our mClass scores and our Mobymax data, our students have grown anywhere from .03 to 5 reading levels! Once again, I ask you to imagine what my students could do with more opportunities to practice their reading skills. Overall, there is no downside to giving our students more technology. In the classroom, there are no limits to how much they can grow with it. My goal is to be able to offer more students a chance to learn in a fun and engaging way!
