"How Can We Be Well?" This is a question our students will be exploring throughout our spring semester. We will be guiding our students through an active exploration of healthy eating, the importance of play/exercise and also "mindfulness" practices and reflection. Our Project-Based unit will allow students to do, create, explore and then reflect on and teach others about physical and emotional wellness. We will use our reading and writing skills to research, reflect on and teach others about our discoveries and what we are learning. In order to provide these hands-on experiences for kids, we need food prep materials, play/game/sport equipment, equipment for a sensory room (We encourage kids to take physical and mental breaks throughout the day as they learn about what their bodies and minds need to be healthy. This space will be available to all CAKC students!) and mentor texts on all these topics in order to provide students with the necessary experiences to build their projects around. 1) For our Nutrition projects we need healthy cookbooks for kids, kid safe cooking utensils, and "My Plate" teaching resources/games. 2) For our "Designed To Move" projects and exploration we need mentor texts that introduce students to new active games and sports, sports equipment, and materials for our sensory room such as an individual trampoline, sensory sand tray, play doh, fidget toys, stress balls/toys, and a pedal exerciser. 3) Finally for our Mindfulness projects we need mentor texts that give our students language and guidance in listening to their bodies and emotions to identify needs, and curriculum for mindfulness activities that can guide student-led projects.
