Last year, a student who often has difficulty sitting still, asked me if it is possible to get a desk that he can stand at. He thought by standing, he would be better able to fidget and still learn. After the interesting conversation, I told him I would try to acquire two standing desks so we could test his theory. Students who have difficulty sitting still will often ask for passes to the bathroom or to the counselor's office or simply get up and walk around, resulting in loss of learning time. Having a desk in class that allows them the ability to stand AND learn will help them stay focused.
