  • Mathematical Matters

    Funded Aug 30, 2017

Thank you so very much for your generous contribution to my Mathematical Matters Project. My First Grade students were so excited to see what awesome math tools were inside our Donors Choose delivery box and then super anxious to use each and every one of them at that very moment. The items we received from our fully funded project were Wooden 2D Geometric Shapes and Shape Cards, Apples to Apples Math Addition Game, Number Cards Write on / Wipe off Boards, and a 4 color Organizer Tray for students to turn in their independent work. These items have provided both whole group practice, as well as individual small group instruction to assist with number sense and fluency. The shape cards gave my students a wonderful hands on learning experience instead of workbook pages provided by our curriculum. The organizer tray system has been a wonderful tool for the students to submit their work for review when ever they finish. These items will continue to be used throughout the school year during math stations to assist in retaining math concepts taught through a spiral curriculum. These items have already been well loved and well received. Thank you again for being such a kind example of truly giving to my students. They are very appreciative and I feel blessed to share such joy with them!”

    With gratitude,

  • Emergent Literacy Books

    Funded Jun 27, 2017

Thank you so much for your generous contribution for our Emergent Reader books to help round out our classroom library needs. In my First Grade Classroom, I have students that vary from those just starting to blend letters and struggle blending into words to those who can pick up an easy reader and read fluently and comprehend beautifully. I needed some lower level readers to help my students feel successful, no matter where they are on their reading journey. It is a struggle in and of itself to pick up a book, but to find one that you feel successful with is such a gift!

The new books that I received through this grant have been leveled by student reading level and placed in the appropriate labeled tubs. Students are welcome to get a book from our class library throughout the day when they have completed their work, or during reading centers. As a bonus, these books also have Accelerated Reading Quizzes that they can take to test their comprehension and gain points.

My students were so excited to receive these books and dove into them right away. Some students read independently and some read with a buddy. I am so excited to have books readily available for them to access when ever they need to instead of waiting for the library to have an open check out opportunity. These books will be well loved and read often.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Stewart

Currently, our 20 book bags rest on the floor against cabinets, and lunch boxes sit atop the counter. It is commonplace for my students to trip over these book bags when they are going to get tissues, germ-x, or to use the sink. It would be wonderful to have a proper storage area to hold their personal belongings of book bags, lunch boxes, and jackets. I am asking for funding for 2 heavy duty wooden coat lockers that features 10 student spaces, for a total of 20 spaces. These wooden lockers will provide much needed cubby space to store book bags, jackets, and lunch boxes for each of my students. I am also requesting plastic storage tubs (20) to hold the students' lunch boxes. In Kindergarten, we often have leaky lunch boxes. These plastic tubs will prevent these leaks from damaging the wooden cubby locker surfaces so they will last for many, many years to come. I try to educate our students to be proactive, productive, and organized in their work and with their materials, yet I am not providing them with the tools to see this in action. I have addressed this concern; however, our school funding and budget is just not able to fund this request at this time. I want my students to feel that there is always a place for them and their important personal belongings in my classroom. Can you please assist me in fulfilling this classroom need for my deserving students?
