  • Give My Special Needs Students a Voice!

    Funded Jan 22, 2022

My students and I are jumping up and down with excitement! Thank you for your generous donation, which will make a huge impact on a very special group of kids. We can't wait to explore all of the possibilities this iPad has to offer. You have opened a whole new world, thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Benson

  • Technology for High School Special Needs Students!

    Funded May 31, 2017

You should see our classroom this year! Kids are communicating, and loving it!

Last year we had zero devices in our room. Now, thanks to you, we have 3 to choose from. It has changed our whole atmosphere.

We were able to load a communication program onto the ipad for two non-verbal students. This program allows them to touch pictures, which form a sentence, which is then read a loud for their peers to hear. One of these students was able to lead the Pledge of Allegiance at our school assembly using this program on the ipad. It was so touching, there were tears shed. Moments like that do not happen very often.

Another student has had behavior problems because he wasn't able to communicate his wants and needs clearly. I wish you could see the smile on his face when he uses these devices to interact with his peers. Finally, he has a chance to be heard. The behaviors are disintegrating.

Even though we are a small class in the middle of America, you have a made a huge impact on our lives.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Benson

My students will be able to better access the educational curriculum through using the iPads and Chromebooks. All of my students have communication goals. I have found that iPads with communication apps are the most effective and motivating for my students. There are also many vision, fine motor, academic, social, and other educational apps designed specifically for students with special needs. Technology is so motivating for special needs students, especially being in high school and seeing their peer tutors being so tech savy. We do not have access to any iPads or Chromebooks currently in our classroom. There are so many lessons and activities we could do if we had more technology.
