We start each day in my preschool classroom with Learning Trays. Each week I create new trays using hands-on learning materials to address basic skills. I use two colors in the learning trays to differentiate between the varied skill levels of my students--i.e. green trays are foundational skills and the blue trays scaffold on those foundational skills. The Lakeshore 16-Tray Mobile Organizer will allow the students to independently access learning materials, and work at their own pace. By providing many opportunities for hands-on practice with interesting learning materials, students stay actively engaged. Working independently on basic skills allows all students to access the materials and then to generalize these skills during small group and whole group activities. The See Inside Counting Tubes, Nuts About Counting, and Color/Shape Matching Egg Sets are self-correcting which is important when children are working independently to learn new skills. Shapes Instant Learning Center and 10-frames are scaffolded skills that once mastered independently, students can use their knowledge in small group activities. The Thinking Putty and Math Links work on strengthening fine motor skills, critical for improving writing skills. Development of basic academic skills are essential for my students with special needs, as well as their typically developing peers who act as models for them in this class. Please help them to thrive and build strong academic foundations!
