Encouraging Students to Read
Funded Mar 24, 2010Thank you so much for donating to our getting students to read project. It was an amazing school year full of reading. The year started out strong and we ended up having more students regularly visiting the library and participating in our reading program than in years past.
The items you provided made great incentive prizes and really excited our students about reading, reaching the point level goals and having the opportunity to win one of the prizes. Having these incentives encouraged many students who might not have otherwise participated to get involved.
For students to become eligible to win one of the prizes they had to read and accumulate a certain number of points. For each book the students read they earned these points. The points accumulated over the year and as soon as they reached one of the set point levels they received a raffle ticket. When they reached another point level they received another raffle ticket and for the next level another raffle ticket and so on. It was amazing to see how excited the students were when they reached each designated point level and were able to fill in another raffle ticket, in hopes of winning one of the prizes.
The points and raffle tickets accumulated over the school year and at the end of the year we had a special reading program raffle event in the library. This was a wonderful event, in which all students were invited. The library was filled to capacity for this event, with students wanting to win one of the amazing prizes that you helped to provide.
After having such a successful and exciting year it was not surprising to have many of the students asking if we could do this again next year. Your contributions really helped us to make this a successful year with our reading program and we appreciate it more than we can express. Thanks again.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Hamilton
