We currently have just a few iPads for our classroom use, and what the students have been able to create on them is incredible. My students are taking ownership in their learning, and they are so proud of their work.
They are sharing their ideas with other students, they are collaborating, and they are able to dive deeper across the curriculum in our classroom. The apps we will be using are Seesaw, Pic Kids, Chatterkid, iRead, Green Screen, and more. With Green Screen, my students can take their opinion writing about their favorite season and videotape themselves reading what they wrote in front of a background of their favorite season. For example, if they wrote about winter, they could make a video that makes it look like they are in the snow. We can play these videos in the classroom, or upload them to Seesaw so their parents can view their projects at home. In learning about hibernation, the students can use Chatter Kid to take a picture of their bear artwork, draw a mouth on their bear, and the bear's mouth will move with the child's narration. This allows the child to not only share their art, but it allows them to share all that they have learned about hibernation. I am able to use these iPads for science, reading, writing, and mathematics.
The students can share their ideas with their peers and family, they can have the opportunity to present their creations on the projector, and they can truly take ownership in their learning. This project would significantly enhance my students' number of opportunities to design projects using technology. I have seen what a powerful tool iPads can be, and I want all of my students to have access to this tool every day in the classroom.
