The children I work with learn best when given access to calming sensory regulation tools. Our amazing team of teachers, aides, and support providers (Occupational Therapist, Speech Therapist, Physical Therapist, Psychologist etc.) would like to create a calming area that will benefit multiple pre-school classrooms. Each class will have a tent to reduce auditory and visual stimuli, and will include different textured pillows and sensory regulation tools that the children can access in order to promote self-regulation and social emotional growth, which in turn allows them to return to classroom activities with their peers. These spaces will help promote better learning with less emotional and sensory dysregulation and allow our students some control and independence over their emotional and sensory needs.
