These graphic novels will be used to enrich students' first real experience with Shakespearian literature. Graphic novels help students comprehend, retain, and even analyze literature through the use of visual aides (illustrations) and the break-down of unfamiliar language. This specific set of graphic novels will be used to supplement our classroom work with the original text of Romeo and Juliet. Students will have access to the graphic novels to read to reinforce what they read during class and to help them review/plan for activities and projects. This resource will be an amazing asset for struggling readers for obvious reasons, but will also be an asset to stronger readers because they will help illustrate the scenes of the classic play.
